The Town of Carmel is a rural bedroom community serving the greater Bangor region with a population of approximately 3,000 people and has a size of 36 square miles. The Town of Carmel operates under the Town Meeting - Board of Selectmen - Town Manager form of government. Under this type of administration, the voters, elect selectmen by ballot the proceeding Saturday before town meeting. As the elected representatives for the town, they establish policy for the normal operation of town government. They hire and appoint a town manager to carry out their policies, supervise all municipal departments, and attend to the daily functions of the town. Our Annual Town Meeting is held the first Monday of March each year. The Municipal Election is held the Saturday before the Annual Town Meeting.
