Regular Meeting (03-25-2019)

Selectmen Present:                Suzan Rudnicki, John Luce, Douglas Small and Jared Fitts

7:30 PM:  Suzan Rudnicki called the meeting to order.

MINUTES:  John Luce made a motion to accept the minutes of March 11, 2019 as amended. Jared Fitts seconded.  Three voted in favor.  Suzan Rudnicki abstained as she was not present for that meeting.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

 

County Tax Assessment:  The Town Manager and Selectmen went over items in this week’s packet, including this year’s county tax assessment.  Carmel’s share is $263,669.00, which is an increase of about $17,000.00.

 

Street Lights:  Kevin let the Board know the street lights that were out on Route 69 have been

  1. The light on the salt shed door has been switched to a dusk-to-dawn light because the motion light was not working properly, and the interior overhead lights were converted to LED.  A dusk-to-dawn LED light was installed at the entrance to Safety Lane from Route 2.

 

Kevin said he contacted CMP and had them put Carmel on the list to switch all of our street lights to LED lights, which they do at no cost to the town. 

 

MMA Executive Committee:  Kevin expressed interest in being considered for the MMA Executive Committee.  The Selectmen offered to make a recommendation on his behalf for the nomination.

 

Safety Enhancement Grant:  Kevin said he would like to apply for the MMA Safety Enhancement Grant, which is a maximum of $2,000 with a $1,000 match from the town.  If we were awarded the grant, Kevin said he would like to purchase high visibility uniform items including jackets and sweatshirts and new traffic control equipment for our public works crew, and would like to add some safety lighting to the new work truck. 

 

John Luce made a motion to authorize the Town Manager to apply for the Safety Enhancement Grant.  Jared Fitts seconded.  Four voted in favor.

 

Emergency Route C Signs:  The Town Manager stated D.O.T. has placed ‘Emergency Route C’ signs on Route 69.  These signs are to let people know where to go when/if portions of Interestate 95 are shut down.

 

Fire Department Training Burn:  The Town Manager let Selectmen know the fire department had a training burn on Mayhew Drive on Saturday, with multiple departments attending.

 

WARRANT:  John Luce made a motion to accept the payroll warrant of March 18, 2019 in the amount of $3,940.77.  Doug Small seconded.  Four voted in favor.

WARRANT:  John Luce made a motion to accept the payroll warrant of March 25, 2019 in the amount of $4,217.79.  Doug Small seconded.  Four voted in favor.

WARRANT:  John Luce made a motion to accept the accounts payable warrant of March 25, 2019 in the amount of $33,290.78.  Doug Small seconded.  Four voted in favor.
